The tumble tee tour is starting today, and I am kicking things off, alongside Sew Sweetness! I was one of the testers for the tumble tee pattern and last time I made an organic knit dress, with colour blocking as per the original pattern! I mixed things up a little bit for my tour version and I switched up the colour blocking to create a bodice piece out of organic stretch jersey in purple maxi dots and for the bottom of the dress I used organic, fairtrade denim in purple, both from my shop: Stitch Organics.
“the tumble tee is a colour-blocked knit dress with built in cap sleeves and an easy fit. with both dress and shirt lengths, as well as multiple seam finishing options, it is easily customized. whether you wear your tumble tee with jeans, shorts, leggings, or as comfy pj’s or a nightgown, this pattern is sure to be a wardrobe staple for years to come”
The tumble tee pattern is available, to purchase, for digital download from the imagine gnats shop.
I was convinced last time, that I should have included pockets and so I promised myself I would definitely add some for the tour. These aren’t your every day inseam pockets though, oh no! I have seen these little circle pockets popping up a lot and I really love the look! I amended the bottom half of the dress, to include the cut out for the pocket and then I added an extra pocket piece cut out of the organic stretch jersey in purple maxi dots. There have been a few of these pockets in Ottobre, so I was able to just use that to sketch it out. I used lime green organic ribbing to finish off the front of the pocket and I used contrast organic cotton top stitching in shade #4803 (lemon), to secure the pocket back. I used the same lime green organic ribbing to finish the sleeves and the neck. When I attached the ribbing, I used the overlocker and trimmed 1/4″ off of the raw edges, before folding over the binding and stitching in the ditch to secure it!
You can see the back of the dress here and also another angle on the pocket. For the hem, I overlocked the raw edge, ironed this 1/4″ over and then folded and ironed a further 1″. I used a double line of contrast stitching to secure the hem.
I actually made the size 4 again, forgetting that Lily had grown since I made the last one. The fit is great at the moment, and hopefully I can get a little more wear out of the dress, by putting it over the top of leggings over the winter! Thankfully Lily is also as enamored with this dress as I am!
