The nature explorer bag [a free pattern]

The Crafty Kitty | The nature explorer bagI am really excited to be bringing you this free pattern/tutorial for: the nature explorer bag! For a while now, I have been wanting to make a customised nature bag for my kiddies, that is the right size for them to handle and has space for the different things that we take with us on walks and when we carry out our nature detectives activities.

When I was sent 3 half yard pieces of Geocentric 2 by Cloud 9 Fabrics as part of the Sew Mama Sew Geocentric bag challenge, I knew that this was the perfect fabric to create the nature explorer bag with, as it is a 44″/45″ certified organic home decor 7 oz canvas. I was lucky enough to receive a half yard each of: trident daffodil,┬ásteps blueberry and interlock sprout. I used organic cotton/organic linen blend poplin as my lining fabric, all sewn together using organic cotton sewing thread.

…two pockets; one for your notebook/field guides and the other (which is sectioned) for your explorer’s tools!

The Crafty Kitty | The nature explorer bagWhilst the size is perfect for pre-schoolers and young kids, it still fits all your treasures, like giant pinecones!!

Best of all.. you can download the pattern (for personal use only), here, for free!! I hope that you enjoy making your own nature explorer bag.

This is the second one I made. The kids had great fun trying them out on their walk today and of course they already got wet and a bit muddy!

This is so cool! We live just 5 minutes from open forest and my boys would love these. Casper is always bringing things back from our walks. When it snowed he wanted to bring back a large block of ice for his craft. Thanks for the free pattern, it looks so well designed and I love those fabrics.

I love this bag! What a great idea and such an amazing pattern. I got the fabric, as well, from SMS and I used it to make something for myself! Gah! You’ve put me to shame.
