Knitted Longies and Boy’s Tunic

Here are the longies that I made for my nephew as a birthday present. They are made from Treliske 8ply Organic Merino Wool in ‘Merle’. The contrast waistband and cuffs are made from Sublime extra fine merino DK in Mocha. The pattern is the Looking Glass Longies available to purchase on Ravelry.

Not strictly speaking a birthday present but I also made my nephew this tunic to go with the big butt baby pants. I used organic cotton voile and trimmed it with some of the Amy Butler fabric which I used in the big butt baby pants and added a dinosaur applique shape, that I found online, also in the Amy Butler Fabric. I had been inspired by Made-By-Rae’s Charlie Tunic but as she is busy with other things right now and I didn’t have time to wait for the pattern to be ready, I was fortunate enough to come across a pattern in the latest edition of Ottobre (Summer 3/2011).

I adapted the Sailor t-shirt pattern, by taking the next size up and also adding to the overall length of the top. I have guessed at all this, based on the fit of the t-shirt in the photograph shown in the magazine. I am almost loathe to see the tunic on my nephew, for fear it will be far to big/too long etc etc. In the meantime I can wallow in a sense of satisfaction that at least on the hanger it looks pretty good!
