Nesting Cubes

These nesting cubes are in Anna Maria Horner‘s Handmade Beginnings although the publisher’s have also made the pattern available here!

I made these as a present for my nephew who was about 8 months at Christmas, so it seemed quite age appropriate. I had started making them a while ago, but it wasn’t until I had finished sewing the cubes that I realised that the interfacing I was using wasn’t anywhere near stiff enough. I finally tried some canvas interfacing, I am dubious that it actually had one fusible side but the original interfacing helped to bond the sides of the inner and outer cubes with the canvas interfacing.

I used all Cloud 9 Fabrics for the cubes (a mixture of ‘beyond the sea’ and ‘my happy garden’ collections) and the tags are made from organic cotton ribbon from Britex Fabrics in San Francisco.

The 2″ cube is made from ‘Anemone’ and ‘Speckle-Sky’

The 3″ cube is made from ‘Speckle-Grass’ and ‘Meadow’

The 4″ cube is made from ‘Flock’ and ‘Blue Yonder’

The 5″ cube is made from ‘Sand Dollar’ and ‘Urchin’

The 6″ cube is made from ‘Toadstalls’ and ‘Lines’

What is great about the Cloud 9 Fabrics is that different collections coordinate so you can mix and match!
